Unit was formed the Winter of 1991/Spring of 1992 in Central Illinois,
and the first re-enactment as a unit was at the 1992 Keokuk, IA. event.
From 1992 to 1996 the unit hosted Armed Forces Day at Rock Island Arsenal
four out of five years, missing 1994 because of the Wilderness national
event. We also assisted in the Bloomington event in 1995 & 1996
and became the primary host for 1997. We are co-hosting the Galesburg, IL. event in August 2003.
In 1995 the 8th joined the Secession Guard Battalion from East Tennessee,
after having been with them at most of the National events.
Currently the 8th consists of 19 Military members including a Chaplain,
and two active and one inactive associates. The Civilians consist
of at least 35 wives and children.
